Durham Pride 2017

Welcome To Durham Pride UK

Durham Pride UK was founded back in 2014 when our Chair, Mel Metcalf began asking people why our beautiful and diverse County wasn’t celebrating LGBT Pride.

We were told we couldn’t do it by some, that it would only be another student event by others and that there wouldn’t be any interest by many.

Less than 6 months later our first Pride happened on a lovely sunny Thursday evening with an estimated audience of 2,500 and a magnificent mix of people. In 2017 we welcomed an amazing 10,000 people to our celebrations as we continue to grow LGBT+ visibility in County Durham.

So we did it and a wonderful LGBT+ community and its many fabulously supportive allies came together to celebrate diversity and put County Durham on the LGBT+ friendly map.

Our Objectives

We are all about raising awareness and educating the public about the issues and difficulties affecting the lives of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) people in and around County Durham.

This includes but is not limited to specialist support and advice for front line agencies providing services to victims and survivors of same sex domestic/sexual violence and abuse, hate crime and bullying.

To help us reach our objectives, profits from Pride events will help provide a safe, accessible and central venue in Durham City for anyone identifying as LGBT or questioning their sexuality. Simply pop in and have a chat with like minded people at our Rainbow Cafe every Sunday morning from 10.30am at My House, bottom of Walkergate in Durham City Centre.
