Welcome To Durham Pride UK
Durham Pride UK was founded back in 2014 when our Chair, Mel Metcalf began asking why our beautiful and diverse County Durham wasn’t celebrating Pride.
We were told we couldn’t do it by some, that it would only be another student event by others and that there wouldn’t any interest by many.
Less than 6 months later our first Pride happened on a lovely sunny Thursday evening with an estimated audience of 2,500 and a magnificent mix of people.
So we did it and a wonderful LGBT community and its many fabulously supportive allies came together to celebrate diversity and put County Durham on the LGBTQ+ friendly map. Last year we saw over 5,000 and this year we will have many more.
We are all about raising awareness and educating the public about the issues and difficulties affecting the lives of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) people in and around County Durham.
This includes but is not limited to specialist support and advice for front line agencies providing services to victims of same sex domestic violence and abuse, hate crime and bullying.
To help us reach our objectives, profits from Pride events will now go towards providing a safe, accessible and central venue in Durham City for anyone identifying as LGBT or questioning their sexuality. Simply pop in and have a chat with like minded people in our Pride Community Cafe every Saturday morning at Alington House on the Bailey.
