Durham Pride

Sunday 29th May 2022

The last weekend in May is usually a Bank Holiday but next year it’s been moved to the weekend after…because it’s THE QUEENS PLATINUM JUBILEE!

Rather than being put off we sensed a theme. The first UK Pride was 50 years ago in London so let’s celebrate the combined total of 120 years of fabulous Queens with a Jubilee themed Pride 🌈🌈🌈

The Parade and March through Durham City to celebrate and highlight the need for more LGBT+ inclusiveness, equality and diversity is back and will be the biggest and best yet✨
Early bird tickets ARE ON SALE NOW from www.eventbrite.co.uk

Our History
Durham Pride UK was founded back in 2014 when our Chair, Mel Metcalf began asking people why our beautiful and diverse County wasn’t celebrating our amazing LGBT+ community?

We were told we couldn’t do it by some, that it would only be another student event by others and that there wouldn’t be any interest by many.

Less than 6 months later our first Pride happened on a lovely sunny Thursday evening with an estimated audience of 2,500 and a magnificent mix of people. In 2019 we welcomed an amazing 25,000 people to our celebrations as we continue to grow LGBT+ visibility in County Durham.

So we did it and a wonderful LGBT+ community and its many fabulously supportive allies came together to celebrate diversity and put County Durham on the LGBT+ friendly map.

Our Objectives

We are all about raising awareness and educating the public about the issues and difficulties affecting the lives of LGBT+ people in and around County Durham.

This includes but is not limited to specialist support and advice for front line agencies providing services to victims and survivors of same sex domestic/sexual violence and abuse, hate crime and bullying.

Any profit from Pride will be used to support our objectives for the following year.
