NEW DATE FOR DURHAM PRIDE 2026 🏳️‍🌈

Durham Pride 2026 has officially been moved to Saturday 30 May 2026.

This decision follows the announcement that BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend 2026 will take place in nearby Sunderland on the same May Bank Holiday weekend the Pride event is held.

Why the date had to change:

  • Operational Viability: Organisers believe that hosting two major regional events simultaneously would not be “operationally or economically viable”.
  • Resource Pressures: With over 80,000 music fans expected in Herrington Country Park, regional policing, medical services, and security personnel would be stretched too thin to safely cover both events.
  • Transport Gridlock: The BBC Big Weekend will cause significant pressure on North East transport links; moving Pride ensures attendees can actually travel to and from Durham without extreme delays.
  • Economic Impact: Organisers want to ensure local businesses and Pride vendors benefit from the full attention of the community, rather than competing for footfall with a national festival just 10 miles away.
  • Providing Options: Attendees can now experience the UK’s largest music festival in Sunderland and still attend Durham Pride the next week.
